Why Choose Judo?
This is an excellent question and one that we feel ought to be considered
by each person interested in pursuing a martial art.  Each art is different,
has different goals and structure and teaches various skill sets.  We
happen to feel that Judo combines the best of the sporting aspect of
martial arts with the utility of self defense while maintaining a dignity that
appeals to both the young and the old.  As stated elsewhere on this
website, as well as elsewhere on the web, Judo is truly a way of life.  Judo
teaches flexibility in both body and attitude which translates outside of the
Dojo into success elsewhere in life.

Literally translated, Judo means "the gentle way" and teaches that careful
observation of your opponents weaknesses and strengths and honest
evaluations of the same in yourself can help lead to success.  In the
popular media, this plays out to be the muscle bound giant being gently
tossed to the ground by a thin, elderly sage who always seems to be in just
the right place.  Success in Judo, as well as in life, often means avoiding
situations that cannot be met directly and approaching them in a way that
accentuates your strengths.  That being said, we feel that strength training,
conditioning and practice yield more opportunities and encourage each of
these by diligent training.  In the words of Theodore Roosevelt (who helped
to introduce Judo to the United States as president) "Speak softly and
carry a big stick".  Our goal is to produce honest, diligent, humble but self
confident citizens who feel confident with the skills that they have learned
at our Dojo.
